CO2 savings through the right use of IT?
How do you manage to save CO2 sustainably with the right IT? I took a closer look at Snow Software’s approach.
If you are using a software product from Snow, the aim is to reduce the costs of software use in the company, establish compliance, manage access, etc. These are all objectives relating to software asset management. These are goals related to software asset management.
So, I was all the more surprised when I read that Snow also deals with the topic of “sustainability”. Of course, sustainability is an issue that concerns many companies. But the fact that a software manufacturer with a range of software for software asset management includes sustainability strategies in its products is at least worth a look.
What exactly does this “add-on” from Snow promise?
Snow creates a personalized sustainability overview to help companies that have set themselves sustainability goals. The information from Snow’s inventory agents is supplemented by a hardware database with information on the sustainability of the devices.
The overview includes:
-Certified sustainable laptop and desktop analysis
– (Report on the number of certified sustainable laptops and desktops in the organization)
-Impact of server migration to the cloud on carbon emissions
– (Shows the estimated reduction in CO2 emissions from moving servers to the cloud)
-Device carbon calculator
(Reports on the energy efficiency of devices and associated carbon emissions to help procure more energy efficient devices in the future)
Snow’s aim in developing these insights is to sensitize companies to the impact of their IT assets on the environment. Sustainable procurement processes can thus be supported in the future. As Snow already knows which systems are being used in a company with the help of its scanning agents, you can also take this step further.
Companies that use this product can prove whether and to what extent their CO2 footprint in IT has changed.
I would say that the collected knowledge of the agents is used wisely for another purpose, and I am happy about this helpful use.
